Tags and Tagging
Tags are usually free form keywords or metadata that a user assigns to describe the content of a blog post, document, wiki page, web site, bookmark, photo or podcast. You can usually assign multiple tags to the same item, and different people might assign different tags. The idea is to make the the content more easily discoverable, either by a search mechanism or by presenting the tags as means to select and view content. Tags are usually chosen informally and personally by the item's author or creator, and also by readers and consumers of the content.
See Tag Cloud.
Tag Cloud
Many systems use a tag cloud as a visual depiction of user-generated tags to describe the content of a web site. The cloud usually displays all of the tags used by that site, whether they are single words or phrases, often listed alphabetically, but with their importance shown by a change in font size or colour - the larger the tag, the more content that has been tagged with that word or phrase. The tags are usually hyperlinks that lead to a list view of those items associated with that tag.
