According to wikipedia.com,a blog is a collection of articles posted by an individual, displayed in reverse-chronological order that are related to that specific single author or a specific topic.

In the past few years, the needs of the bloggers and the comopnies who blog about their products and services have expanded greatly. A new type of blogs are introduced called community or communities / Collaborative blog - a type of weblog which publishes posts written by multiple users. The majority of high profile collaborative blogs are based around a single uniting theme, such as politics or technology. To answer the needs of the community blogging new tools are introduced:

  • Search
  • Various update and notification options as RSS feeds and emails
  • Categories
  • Topics / tags
  • Comments
  • Online collaboration tools in community blogs as wiki and document sharing
  • Social networking features
  • Specific interests community bilding
  • User Profiles and member search
  • Private messaging inside the community
